In 2009, the Agulowak River in Southwest Alaska was designated as one of ten "Waters to Watch" as part of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan.

Also in 2009, the Southwest Alaska Salmon Habitat Partnership was recognized with a "Partners in Conservation" award by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
